BEE BONANZA AT WDBKA HONEY SHOW THIS YEAR!
What a fantastic time we all had at the show this year. The marquee was buzzing all day, from 9am to 5pm. We had the best ever entries: 204!
Thank you everyone for entering the classes – it makes such a difference when our stands and tables are full of honey, wax exhibits and honey cakes. Our steward this year was Peter Crabbe, who assisted Hazel Blackburn, our National Honey Judge. Hazel was impressed with the standard of the exhibits this year and the numbers! We had to call in a cake judge at the last minute – Nicky, who did a sterling job for us on the cake classes, otherwise the judging would have taken a very long time.
Our two observation hives were surrounded by interested adults and children. The information table was very active all day with enquiries about the Asian hornet, our association and the Beginners Course. We were thrilled that WDBKA won first prize for the honey tasting … we certainly sold a lot of the Association Honey. The cake stand also sold out in record time … more cake donations required for next year please!
Thanks go to Debbie with her candle rolling and Filberts with their wonderful display of their honey and wax products, also Groves Nursery who did a lovely display of plants relating to bees and insects in an old rustic wheelbarrow which added to the colour of the marquee. Not forgetting the wonderful flower arrangements by Tilly. A big thank you goes to all the helpers before and during the show. Without you there would be no show.
David Lyall, one of our Vice-Presidents, kindly presented the prizes this year. The best in show for the second year running was Carole Astbury with her magnificent wax display. For a bit of fun we had a prop board made, which the children and some of us too, just had to try out!!
