Apiary visit for students

The final student session took place at the Netherbury apiary on Saturday 26th June. The course started in January 2020 so it was pleasing to see that so many of the original cohort have stayed with us and over half of the group now have their own colonies. There was no need to loan any WDBKA suits … everyone has their own!

We were delighted to welcome Kevin Pope, our SBI to lead the meeting. It was an excellent opportunity for the new beekeepers to meet him and to share their questions. Kevin worked his way through the colonies and demonstrated how to carry out an inspection for disease. Fortunately there was little to cause concern but he was able to show a couple of sac brood cells, identified a patch of bald brood and removed a lesser wax moth lava!

Please remember that the apiary is now open to all members. Details of times and dates can be found on the website … we hope to see you there for some bee chat πŸ˜ŠπŸπŸ™‚πŸπŸ™ƒ
