East Devon BKA invite WDBKA members to join their annual lecture programme.

This month Brigit Strawbridge will present her talk –

‘Bees: importance of diversity and relationships with flowering plants’

Brigit is a nationally known ecologist, broadcaster and beekeeper. She will explain that no single species has it all, either as a pollinator or a food source. She considers that diversity is essential but under- appreciated

Subject to the right weather conditions this will be the first meeting of the season at the WDBKA Apiary for some of our student beekeepers. Group A.

Please remember to bring clean gloves and wellies – suits will be available at the apiary.

This is the final talk of the series. Master Beekeeper and Psychologist, Lynne Ingram considers the role of dance communication in colony wellbeing. Come, learn and enjoy this insight into the colony mind from a knowledgeable beekeeper and communicator.

First Apiary Meeting for Members @ Netherbury Apiary

Although our student groups have already enjoyed their first visits to the Apiary, this is the first opportunity in 2019 for all members to come along and see what the colonies are up to!

The four colonies are running in different configurations to demonstrate a variety of ways to use National and 14×12 kit.

Please bring clean boots and gloves. Suits are available to loan.

We look forward to welcoming Kevin Pope – SBI,  to the WDBKA Apairy to meet our latest cohort of new beekeepers.

Kevin will lead the session which will focus on a full disease inspection to assess the health of the colonies as we head into the new season.

This will be the final visit for Group A … completing the Beginners’ Course for 2019.

Please remember that you are very welcome to attend further apiary meetings as the season progresses – it’s a brilliant way to develop and extend the knowledge you have gained during the theory part of the course.
